Killing Kind

Biography

Killing Kind began as a pandemic-era project in 2021, formed by Mats Molund (formerly of post-punk acts such as Fahrenheit, Schnabel, and Lee Harvey Oswald Ensemble), Mats Wigerdal (Kitchen & the Plastic Spoons, Hörförståelse, Oven & Stove, Ubangi), and Björn Norberg (Quantum Leap). All three are well-known figures in the Swedish post-punk scene, with roots stretching back to the 1980s.

Soon after forming, the trio was joined by guest musicians including Emille de Blanche (GHLOW), Kalle Mattsson (Stiu Nu Stiu), and Tina Gunnarsson (Hexed), adding new dimensions to the band's sound.

Killing Kind's debut album, released in 2023, was met with critical acclaim. The standout single "This Beautiful World" gained steady airplay on Sweden's national radio, SR, and soon reached audiences on stations around the globe. The album was produced by legendary producer Tomas Skogsberg - renowned for his work across genres from EBM to extreme metal, with credits including Poupée Fabrikk, Entombed, and The Hellacopters. Skogsberg's long-standing creative partnership with Björn Norberg has continued to flourish, leading to a second album (now set for release) and a third currently in production. These upcoming works also feature contributions from Måns Hartman (The Search) and other notable musicians.

Killing Kind's music is deeply rooted in the Swedish post-punk sound of 1980–1983, drawing on influences such as Einstürzende Neubauten, David Bowie, Joy Division, Fad Gadget, Depeche Mode, and Swedish cult acts like Cortex and Blue for Two. These references frequently appear in reviews, underscoring the band's commitment to a dark, textured, and authentic post-punk aesthetic.
